No. Mammoth Springs Campground charges a fee. It is managed by the USFS. Sites are reservable through fs.usda.gov.
Access 1: From Avery, Idaho drive 22 miles east of Avery on St. Joe River Road (Forest Highway 50), turn south on Bluff Creek Road (#509), go 14 miles and turn south 2-1/2 miles on Avery Timber Creek Road (#201). Proceed 2.4 miles to the campground entrance. Access 2: From St. Regis, Montana take the Little Joe Road (#282) to the Idaho border where it becomes Gold Creek Road (#388). This road will end at the St. Joe River Road (Forest Highway 50) where you turn right and continue as in Access 1.
