Your data, on your terms.

TerrainKit (“TerrainKit,” “we,” “us”) provides an offline map of campsites, water, dump stations, propane and legal overnight parking for iOS and Android, operated by Fullstackcaveman Software LLC. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

We collect only what we need to run the map and your account:

• Account details - when you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and Google account identifier. When you sign in with your email address, we receive and store that email address.
• Location data - with your permission, your device location so the map can show what’s near you and power radius search, routing and offline downloads.
• Content you create - check-ins, photos, reviews, added campsites, saved lists and trip plans.
• Purchase status - whether you have an active subscription. Payments are processed by Apple and Google; we never receive your card details.
• Device & diagnostic data - app version, device model, crash reports and app usage events. See Product analytics below for exactly what this includes.

• Show nearby spots, search, routing and offline regions.
• Sync your account, saved lists and trips across your devices.
• Display community content and keep site data fresh and accurate.
• Provide support and respond to your requests.
• Detect abuse, fix bugs and improve the app.
• Understand which features are used so we can prioritize development.

We use PostHog, Inc. to understand which features you use so we can prioritize what to build and fix next. PostHog processes and stores this data in the United States. Analytics collection begins when you first open the app, before you create an account.

The app sends PostHog the following:

• Your user ID - the same account identifier we use across our services. We never send your name, email address or other contact details to PostHog.
• An installation ID - a random identifier assigned to the app on your device, so we can count activity before you sign in. When you sign in, activity from that installation is linked to your account.
• App interactions - which screens you open and which controls you tap, plus product events such as creating a trip, saving a place, checking in or opening a place’s details. These record the type of thing involved (for example, a place category), never the specific place, its name or its coordinates, and never anything you type.
• Crash and error reports - error messages and stack traces from the app’s code.
• Diagnostics - device model, operating system version, app version, locale and timezone.
• Purchase events - that a subscription was started, restored, completed, canceled or failed, along with which product. We do not send the price you paid, your payment method or a transaction ID.

The app also sends your answers to onboarding questions (vehicle type, travel needs and whether you granted location permission), star ratings on your reviews, your subscription status and which app build and release channel you are using.

The app does not send PostHog your email or contact details, your precise or approximate location (location lookup from your IP address is turned off), place names or coordinates, photos, anything you type into forms or advertising identifiers. There is no session recording or screen capture.

We do not use app analytics data for advertising. We do not sell it, share it with data brokers or use it to track you across other apps or websites.

We keep analytics data while your account exists. When you delete your account at terrainkit.app/delete-account, your analytics data is deleted too. Analytics data from an installation that never signs in is not linked to any account and cannot be deleted individually; it is kept for PostHog’s standard retention period. You can stop collection by deleting your account or uninstalling the app.

This section applies to the terrainkit.app website only, not the mobile app. The app uses PostHog as described in Product analytics above.

Unless you have opted out, the website loads two third-party tags on every page as soon as the page loads:

• Google Analytics 4 - Google’s measurement tool, which we use to understand how people use the site. It records which pages are viewed, when someone joins the waitlist and when someone taps a link to our Google Play listing. It sets cookies in your browser to recognize repeat visits. You can also opt out of Google Analytics on every website with Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
• Meta pixel - Meta’s tag, which records the pages you view, when you join the waitlist and when you tap a link to our Google Play listing, so we can measure our ads and build audiences for advertising on Meta’s platforms. It uses cookies and a tracking pixel. We send it with Meta’s Limited Data Use setting, which Meta applies to visitors in US states whose privacy laws call for it. You can control how Meta uses this data for ads in your Meta ad preferences at facebook.com/adpreferences.

There is no cookie banner. Instead, you can opt out in two ways: use the Your Privacy Choices link in the site footer, or turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser, which we honor automatically. Once you opt out, neither Google Analytics nor the Meta pixel loads on this website in that browser. An opt-out made with the footer link is saved in a cookie in your browser for one year, and clearing your cookies undoes it.

Location is used while you use the app to position the map and find nearby spots. You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings - the app still works, but nearby search will be limited. Downloaded regions are stored on your device so the map keeps working with no signal; no connection is required to view them.

Content you post - check-ins, photos, reviews and campsites you add - is visible to other TerrainKit users so the map stays useful for everyone. Do not post anything you would not want to be public. If you delete your account, your reviews and photos are removed, but campsites and locations you added remain on the map, no longer linked to you.

We do not sell your personal information. On the website, we share your activity with Meta and Google for advertising measurement and targeted advertising, which some privacy laws treat as “sharing.” You can opt out with the Your Privacy Choices link in the site footer or by turning on Global Privacy Control in your browser; either one stops both tags from loading. You can also use the Google and Meta controls described in Website analytics and advertising.

Apart from that, we share personal information only:

• With service providers who host and operate the app on our behalf (for example, cloud hosting and authentication), under agreements that limit their use of it.
• With PostHog, Inc., our product analytics provider, which processes and stores analytics data in the United States (see Product analytics above).
• With Apple and Google, who process subscriptions and app distribution under their own privacy policies.
• When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and property of TerrainKit and its users.
• As part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, with notice to you.

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and personal data yourself at any time at terrainkit.app/delete-account - no app required. Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription; cancel that separately in the App Store or Google Play.

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly in the app or via the deletion page, or by emailing [email protected]. For app analytics, the way to stop collection is to delete your account or uninstall the app. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

TerrainKit is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and to notify you of material breaches as required by law.

We may process and store information in countries other than where you live. Where we transfer data internationally, we use appropriate safeguards consistent with applicable law.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will change the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice.
