About this place

Racetrack cabin is situated next to Racetrack Creek on the east side of the Flint Creek Range at an elevation of about 6,300 feet surrounded by dense forest near Deer Lodge Montana. Originally built as a mining cabin in the 1930s it was later donated to the Forest Service and refurbished for use by the public.

No. Racetrack Cabin charges a fee. It is managed by the USFS. Sites are reservable through recreation.gov.

How do I get to Racetrack Cabin?

From Deer Lodge, travel south on Interstate 90 for about 11 miles to the Racetrack exit 195. Turn west and drive about 1 mile, then turn south and continue less than a mile to Forest Service Road 160. Turn west onto 169 and continue about 16 miles. Racetrack Cabin in will on your left. Maps may e purchased at the Pintler Ranger District in Philipsburg, MT. Attention: A high clearance 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Allow yourself at least 30 minutes to travel the last 4 miles to the cabin. Vehicle access cannot be guaranteed any time of the year due to ever-changing weather or road conditions. In the winter months, guest must be prepared to travel up to 14 miles to the cabin on skis or snowmobiles from the end of the plowed road.
