Nordheimer’s main campground is open year-round and offers 12 single fee sites, all on a first-come first-served basis. No running water. No electric or sewer hookups. There is a vault restroom, and each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Most sites provide some shade. Roads and parking areas are gravel. The campground is located in a Douglas-fir and hardwood forest next to the Wild and Scenic California Salmon River. The Salmon River area is popular for swimming, sunbathing, rafting, kayaking, hiking, wildlife viewing and biking.. There is a vault restroom, and each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Rafting activities begin in early spring and continue until the water levels drop too low, usually in early summer. Nordheimer is a must for those seeking beauty and seclusion. Remnants from historic mining operations can still be seen in this remote but beautiful camping area. A few fruit trees remain from past homesteading activities. Boat access through the campground to the river’s edge is available for 4x4 vehicles.
