USFS · Lookout/Cabin · Free
This tiny, stone cabin is available to rent through the Potomic Appalachian Trail Club and is located about 8 miles from Woodstock, VA. Offering 2 double-deck, fold-down bunks and a small wood stove, this cabin is ideal for more adventurous couples. Built for use by national forest rangers circa 1920, the cabin is appropriate for experienced backpackers seeking remote lodging and a difficult hike-in. Access the cabin by a 3.2 mile uphill hike-in on Little Stony Creek Trail. When the trailhead is closed from February through April, park at the Wolf Gap Recreation Area Campground and attempt the 6.7 mile hike-in. This alternate route is not for the faint-hearted or novice hiker.
