Greenwood Point Campground at Lake Moomaw offers the solitude of an isolated and remote location. With no road access, the adventure is just getting there! Strap on that pack and take a hike, paddle, or canoe directly to the shores of the campground. Wooded campsites encircle an open and grassy common area, and lakeside views make this a popular private and quiet camping destination.

No. Greenwood Point Campground charges a fee. It is managed by the USFS. Sites are reservable through fs.usda.gov.

How do I get to Greenwood Point Campground?

This site can be accessed by boat from Fortney Branch Boat Launch, Coles Point Day Use Area, or via a hiking trail accessed from Bolar Mountain Campground, campground 3. To Fortney Branch Boat Launch: From I-64: Take exit 16 at Covington. Take US 220 north for four miles. Take SR 687 northwest for three miles. Take SR 641 west one mile. Take SR 666 north for five miles. Follow the signs to the boat launch. To Coles Point Day Use Area: From I-64 at Exit 16A in Covington, Virginia, follow signs to U.S. Highway 220 and travel north about 5.5 miles. Turn left on State Road 687/Jackson River Turnpike and travel about 3.2 miles. Turn left on State Road 641/Indian Draft Road, which soon becomes State Road 666. Travel about 4.2 miles on 641/666 to a 3-way intersection. Turn right on State Road 605 and travel 4.5 miles, passing the Morris Hill Campground entrance, and crossing the Gathright Dam. Picnic shelter #1 will be on the left. To Bolar Mountain Campground: From Covington, take 220 North to Hwy 39 and turn left on Hwy 39. Take Hwy 39 to Hwy 600 (Bolars Draft Road) and turn left on Hwy 600 to the campground. Turn right on Twin Ridge Drive. To store & marina, stay on Hwy 600 for 1 mile. Store and marina are on the right.
