Located at the top of Star Peak, this Lookout is an old fire watch tower near Heron, MT. Star Peak is the location of the first recorded lookout site in Montana. You will see stunning views of Scotchman Peaks, Cabinet Mountain Wilderness and the Clark Fork Valley. The round trip hike to the Lookout is 8.9 miles with an elevation gain of 3927 feet. The trail has a difficult rating.

How do I get to Star Peak Lookout?
From milepost 6 on Hwy 200 turn north onto FSR 2292. The trailhead is located approximately 100 yards from the highway on the first switchback of the road. There is ample space at the trailhead for a few small vehicles. Most users with large vehicles or vehicles with trailers park on the south side of Highway 200 in a large wide area and walk across the highway to FSR 2292 and the trailhead.
