Pine River Campground is located four miles beyond Middle Mountain Campground, at the end of Forest Rd. 602. The campground is adjacent to the trailhead for the Pine River Trail #523 This area is often used as a temporary base camp and parking area for hikers and backpackers. Campsites accommodate only tents or small RVs. All 6 campsites have views up the Pine River Valley. Private land adjoins the campground, with no public access to the river until three miles up the trail. There is no potable water. Although horses are not allowed in the primitive campground, the Pine River Trailhead has a parking area with a horse corral for overnight horse camping, as well as hitching posts and a turn-around parking area for trailers.

From Durango, CO: Travel 17 miles on Florida Road, County Road #240. Turn left onto County Road #501 for approximately 13 miles to Middle Mountain Campground. Continue onto CR 501 for approximately 4 miles to the campground entrance. From Bayfield, CO: Travel 22 miles north on County Road 501 to Middle Mountain Campground. What are the rules at Pine River Campground?
Quiet time is typically between 10pm - 6am. Please be a good neighbor and limit use of generators to no more than one hour at a time. Dogs must be leashed or otherwise physically restrained. Do not leave pets unattended. Check-out time: 12:00 pm; Check-in time: 2:00 pm - if the site is empty, campers may come in anytime. Standard single site occupancy is 8, but a single family with > 8 members is acceptable. Equipment with wheels (RVs, campers, cars) must fit in the parking spur. There is not any overflow parking available. Max RV size = 16 ft
