Two miles northeast of Dunton, Burro Bridge is one of three campgrounds along the West Dolores Road (Forest Rd. 535). The campground has 14 sites with a few shade trees on a sloping hillside above the West Dolores River. For those camping with stock (extra fee), there is a nearby corral next to two of the campsites. Two bays can accommodate 2 horses a day. Parking pads are wide enough to accommodate RVs. One site has a table suitable for wheelchairs. Burro Bridge Trail #649 also begins here. The campground provides easy access to the Lizard Head Wilderness, but not easy access to the water. Services include potable water, vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire grates. No trash service is available. This campground provides limited services from late September through October. Between October and May there are no services (water, trash pick up or restrooms). Please keep the campground clean and pack out any trash!

From Dolores: Head north on Highway 145 about 13 miles. Turn left onto West Dolores Road (Forest Road 535). Burro Bridge Campground lies two miles northeast of Dunton. The West Dolores Road follows the West Dolores River almost to its headwaters in the Lizard Head Wilderness. After 32 miles, the West Dolores Road rejoins Highway 145, six miles north of Rico. The road has a gravel surface, but the last 6 miles are steep, narrow, and not recommended for trailers. Burro Bridge Campground area map
Quiet time is typically between 10pm - 6am. Please be a good neighbor and limit use of generators to no more than one hour at a time. Dogs must be leashed or otherwise physically restrained. Do not leave pets unattended. Check-out time: 12:00 pm; Check-in time: 2:00 pm - if the site is empty, campers may come in anytime. Standard single site occupancy is 8, but a single family with > 8 members is acceptable. Equipment with wheels (RVs, campers, cars) must fit in the parking spur. There is not any overflow parking available. Max RV size = 35 ft Accessibility: One campsite has a table suitable for wheelchairs.
