About this place

Poso Guard Station is located near Glennville and Posey, 1 hour from Porterville or Bakersfield. at an elevation of 4480 foot. Cabins are all located on the Sequoia National Forest, and are either in the Giant Sequoia National Monument or adjacent to it. Big Meadows, Mtn. Home and Frog Meadow. are open mid-May to mid-November only, dependent on weather conditions. Cabins all have indoor bathrooms complete with tub/shower, sink and toilet. Cabins are furnished with couches, tables and chairs, beds, mattresses. Kitchens are complete with dishes, glasses, tableware, pots and pans. Cook stoves, refrigerators, water heaters, and room heaters are operated either by electricity or propane. Big Meadow. also has a wood burning stove for heat. All have outdoor BBQ/Fire rings, and picnic tables. Wood may not be available. YOU WILL NEED TO BRING your own bedding, bath towels, and food, including salt and pepper.***NOTE: There is NO ELECTRICITY at Mtn. Home or Frog Meadow. You will need to furnish your own battery or propane operated lanterns for light after dark. Reservations are accepted UP TO 6 months in advance, and are highly recommended. Cabins rent for $176per night. Week-end two night stay may be required in heavy use season. Rocky Mountain Recreation (RMR)All developed campground areas on the Forest operate under a concessionaire permit with RMR. How do I get to Poso Guard Station?

The cabin is 40 miles northeast of Bakersfield and 45 miles southeast of Porterville (approximately a 1 hour drive from either location). From Bakersfield, take Highway 65 north to Highway 155. Turn east on 155 and continue to the Jack Ranch Road. Turn left (north) on the Jack Ranch Road and travel to the Old Stage Road (M3). Travel through the Balance Rock settlement until you come to a 4-way intersection. The driveway to Poso Cabin is a hard turn back to the left. From Porterville, travel south on Highway 65 to Ducor. Turn left (east) on Avenue 56 to Fountain Springs. At the 4-way stop, turn right onto Old Stage Road. Travel southeast to the intersection with the Jack Ranch Road. Turn left (north) on M3. Travel through the Balance Rock settlement until you come to a 4-way intersection. The driveway to Poso Cabin is a hard turn back to the left.
